Comic Metadata
Good metadata helps readers discover your work. This guide covers all the fields in the publishing form, organized by section to match the upload interface.
Cover & Header Images
Cover Image
By default, the system automatically uses your comic's first page as the cover image. This works well if your first page is the cover of your comic.
Custom Upload (Optional):
If you'd like to use a different image:
- Click on the cover placeholder to upload a custom cover
- Recommended size: 300x430px
- No borders: Keep the full bleed for best results
- Format: JPG or PNG
Header Image (Optional)
The header image appears as a banner on your comic's detail page. By default, the system uses the center portion of your cover image.
Custom Upload:
You can upload a custom header image for a more polished look:
- Recommended size: 1280x400px
- Format: JPG or PNG
- This banner helps create visual interest on your comic's page
Language & File Information
Language
Select the primary language of your comic's dialogue and text. This helps readers find comics in their preferred language.
Title
Give your comic a clear, descriptive name. If it's part of a series, include the issue number (e.g., "Dark Galaxy #1").
Series (Optional)
If your comic is part of a series, you can either select an existing series from the dropdown or create a new one on the fly:
- Select existing: Choose from the dropdown menu
- Create new: Start typing a new series name and click the "create [series name]" option that appears
You only need to provide the series title when creating it inline. You can add the description and cover later. Learn more in our Series Management guide.
Synopsis
Write a 2-4 paragraph summary of your story. Hook readers with the first sentence, describe the tone and genre, and avoid major spoilers. A good synopsis helps readers decide if your comic is for them.
File Upload
Upload your comic file in one or more formats. Readers can then download whichever format they prefer:
- Supported formats: CBZ, CBR, CB7, PDF, EPUB
- At least one format is required
- Multiple formats give readers more flexibility
Additional Metadata
Creators
Give credit to everyone who contributed to your comic:
- Enter the creator's name in the NAME field
- Select their role from the ROLES dropdown (Writer, Artist, Colorist, Letterer, etc.)
- Click Add Creator to credit additional contributors
Proper attribution helps with discoverability and respects your collaborators' work.
Categories
Select 2-4 relevant genres or themes that describe your comic. Categories help readers discover your work through search and filtering, so choose accurately.
First Publication Date (Optional)
If your comic was previously published elsewhere, you can enter the original publication date here. Leave this blank for new releases.
Reading Direction
Choose the default reading direction for your comic:
- Left to right (default for Western comics)
- Right to left (standard for manga and similar formats)
- Top to bottom (vertical scroll for webtoon style comics)
Users can change this settings from our reader.
Age Rating (Required)
Age rating is required before you can publish. Instead of choosing a rating directly, you'll answer 8 questions about your comic's content:
- Violence, abuse, or horror elements
- Profanity, mature language, or crude humor
- Sexual content, suggestive material, or nudity
- Drugs, alcohol, or tobacco
- Mental health struggles, self-harm, or trauma
- Strong religious or philosophical content
- Themes of slavery, trafficking, or exploitation
- Controversial, disturbing, or adult subject matter
For each category, indicate the frequency and intensity: None, Infrequent/Mild, or Frequent/Intense.
Based on your answers, the system calculates the appropriate age rating:
- L (all ages)
- 12 (12+)
- 16 (16+)
- 18 (18+)
Age ratings help ensure your comic reaches the right audience. Answer questions honestly based on the actual content. Learn more in our Age Ratings guide.
Pricing & Selling Information
Price
Enter your comic's price in your store's currency. The interface shows you the math:
What readers pay: Your price + $0.40 processing fee
What you earn: Your price minus the 20% platform fee
Example: If you set the price at $4.99, readers will pay $5.39, and you'll earn $3.99 per sale.
See our Platform Fees guide for more details on how pricing works.
Draft vs. Publish
When you're done filling out the form, you have two options:
Save Draft: This saves everything—including your uploaded files—without making the comic visible to readers. Drafts are essentially unpublished comics that you can come back to later.
Publish: This makes your comic live in your store and starts the file processing. Once published, readers can purchase your comic immediately.
You can unpublish a comic at any time by editing it and selecting "unpublish" or by removing it (which will eliminate the comic and all its data from your store).
Users that already purchased your comic will still have access to unpublish comics via their libraries.
Editing Published Comics
You can edit your comic's metadata anytime after publishing:
- Go to My Store → My Comics
- Select the comic you want to edit
- Click Edit
- Update any fields
- Click Save
Users will always have access to the most recent files by default.
Best Practices
Titles: Never use generic titles like "Comic #1". Be specific and use your comics name.
Descriptions: Include a hook, story summary, and tone in 2-3 paragraphs. Add content warnings if your comic includes mature themes.
Creators: Credit everyone who contributed. Proper attribution helps with discoverability and respects your collaborators.
Categories: Choose accurately. Select 2-4 of the most relevant categories rather than trying to check every box.
Age Rating: Rate honestly based on your content. When in doubt, it's better to rate up than down.
Pricing: Consider your page count, production value, and comparable works in your genre. See our Setting Prices guide for strategy tips.
